Who We Are:

Although I hate to admit it, I have been playing bass for over 20 years now. After learning "Louie Louie," "Smoke on the Water," and "Sunshine of your Love" in High School, I took up with some other budding musicians in Terre Haute, Indiana and formed dB Cooper. After four years of college and bar gigs, dB Cooper disbanded as the members went their seperate ways.

The reunion of dB Cooper in 2001 rekindled my urge to play again, but this time on a more casual schedule. Bass Ackwards was born on the concept of playing once a month or so, with a primary focus on having fun making music. So here we are. And I'm having fun.

Remember, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.

I am from small town Iowa and grew up listening to Hank Jr., Willie and Waylon as well as the Eagles and Elvis. I also survived the Bee Gees and Donna Summer. I also listened to The Cars, Van Halen, KISS, Night Ranger and Guns and Roses amongst others.

Growing up on a farm meant chores and cleaning hog barns. My dad, brother and I would pass the time while pitching hog s#!t by singing classics like "her name was Lola, she was a show girl" and "beauty school drop out..go back to high school." We only had 4 channels on tv so we used to listen to the radio and play records on the big Zenith console stereo regularly...always singing along.

After high school I went to college at ISU and listened to and watched the Blues Brothers...."sometimes" we would have
parties and would put speakers in the windows and put the Blues
Brothers CD's on repeat for 3 days straight.

Now I understand why Jake and Elwood wanted to get the band back together. It's a blast!

I grew up in a small town in Illinois, where music has always been one of my passions. I started playing drums when I was about 4, and it started with knitting needles and a chair. When I became a teenager I started playing in band, but I was playing the trumpet. One day I sat at the schools trap set and started playing on it. The band teacher was so impressed she gave me some music and sent the drums home with me. Two months later I was playing in the jazz band, but when school was over, so was my drumming career, or so I thought.

After I became a single parent and a move to Marion, IA, decided to buy a drum set and cure that urge that was hiding in the dark all those years. About a year later, I was introduced to Bass Ackwards.

My life in music started out playing drums/percussion at age 11, which I continued throughout high school. I grew up listening to Van Halen, Boston, Billy Joel, KISS and whatever else I could "borrow" from my brothers on either 8-track, vinyl or cassette. While playing drums in a high school cover band (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, etc), I decided to learn guitar, taking lessons from our lead guitarist, who was an accomplished musician. As fate would have it (and a sprinkle of high school drama), I eventually left that band to play lead guitar for another group, who at the time was in need of some serious assistance. We had a great time, and would continue to rock southeast Iowa for 7 years.

Then life caught up with me, and unfortunately I hung up my guitar for awhile.

I got hooked up with BassAckwards a few years ago through Brian, and they invited me to sit in on rhythm guitar from time to time. Now here I am in the lead guitarist seat, and lovin' every minute of it.

I’ve been singing since I was three.  My mom accompanied me on the guitar and my dad had a snare drum and a one foot cymbal…..LOL.  I can remember in the early days, my mom bought a used amplifier that said, “Country Playboys”, written in cursive in silver glitter on the front of the speaker…ha, ha…Wow; those were the good ole days.

I’ve sang at many different venues in my child /early adult hood and actually won the Iowa State fair when I was 13yrs old.  What a great experience that was,  in addition to  the gymnasts, baton twirlers and tap dancers that came from around the state to compete, I was up against a girl who had 7 years of professional voice lessons, and was singing the song “Evergreen” by Barbara Streisand (a very beautiful and difficult song to sing).  I sang, “Welcome to my morning” by John Denver and had never had a voice lesson in my life.  I was basically in udder disbelief (as were my parents) when they called my name for 1st place.

How did I get involved with the BassAckwards band you ask?  Well, one night I was out at a local pub and heard there were a couple guys from a band (Mike & Jeff) who mentioned they were looking for a female vocalist.  I walked up and started talking to them, before long I was singing a song by Carrie Underwood for them, “Before he cheats”, they invited me to their next practice and here I am now.
